NHL trade deadline: Brian Boyle to Toronto as Maple Leafs gear up for playoff run

Nothing is given in the cutthroat Atlantic Division, and with a clear shot at the playoffs, the upstart Maple Leafs are gearing up to make the most of their unexpected success.

With the playoffs in mind, Toronto added veteran forward Brian Boyle to its ranks from the Lightning, the teams announced. The gritty centerman cost a second-round draft pick in 2017 and minor league forward Byron Froese, but for the first time in years the Leafs are on the right side of the buy-sell market.

Boyle, a pending unrestricted free agent, was one of the more sought-after names remaining ahead of Wednesday’s deadline.

The 32-year-old was unlikely to re-sign with the cap-strapped Lightning, who continued their sell-off after trading star goalie Ben Bishop on Sunday, so he’ll bring 22 points and ample playoff experience to a young Leafs team now seven points clear of Tampa in the Eastern Conference wild-card race.

Taking a clear stance in this instance could eliminate any questions as to what discrimination the NHL does and does not take seriously, and make it crystal clear that none of it is acceptable.

If Matthews improves exponentially as McDavid did in his second year, he Wholesale Jerseys NFL could conceivably get close to the Edmonton center’s $12.5 million AAV. The same Cheap NFL Jerseys Usa could happen with Tavares if multiple teams bid for his services.
