James Dolan, Wilpons among investors eyeing new arena for Islanders

A group of investors that includes James Dolan, owner of the Rangers and Knicks, and the Wilpon family, owner of the Mets, is formulating a plan to build a new arena for the Islanders near Queens, Bloomberg News reports.

The proposal is a joint venture between the Islanders, Oak View Group and Sterling Project Development, sources told Bloomberg. Madison Square Garden Co. is an investor in Oak View Group, a private equity company run by Tim Leiweke and Irving Azoff. The Wilpon family controls Sterling Project Development.
